The West and the Rest, More and Less

When I consider why the girl with the braid or the other school-children we met that afternoon might have different opportunities than my students and I, I think about the “West and the Rest” categories and the “more” and “less” descriptors we use to describe countries:

More development and infrastructure = more resources = more opportunities for more of us.

Less development and infrastructure = less resources = less opportunity for more of us.
